Operation of the ATLAS Transition Radiation Tracker under very high irradiation at the CERN LHC

چکیده
The ATLAS Transition Radiation Tracker (TRT) performance depends critically on the choice of the active gas and on its properties. The most important operational aspects, which have led to the final choice of the active gas for the operation of the TRT at the LHC design luminosity, are presented. The TRT performance expected at these conditions is reviewed, including pile-up effects at high luminosity. r 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. PACS: 29.40. n; 29.40.Gx

High Rate Photon Irradiation Test of an 8-Plane ATLAS Transition Radiation Tracker Sector Prototype
In this document we report the results from a high rate photon irradiation test of an ATLAS Transition Radiation Tracker 8-plane endcap sector prototype with 192 straws instrumented with near to final front-end electronics. Data was taken at the CERN X5 Gamma Irradiation Facility with a Cs photon source, and at the Weizmann Institute irradiation facility in Israel with a Gammabeam 150 Co source...
متن کاملCharacterisation of p-in-n ATLAS silicon microstrip detectors fabricated by Hamamatsu Photonics and irradiated with 24GeV/c protons to 3 × 1014pcm−2
P-in-n silicon microstrip prototype detectors for the ATLAS experiment at CERN have been designed and manufactured by Hamamatsu Photonics. Detectors were irradiated at the CERN Proton Synchrotron facility to a fluence of 3× 1014 pcm−2, corresponding to the total fluence anticipated after ten years of operation in the ATLAS semiconductor tracker. They were subsequently annealed for 7 days at 25o...
متن کاملATLAS Transition Radiation Tracker test-beam results
Several prototypes of the Transition Radiation Tracker for the ATLAS experiment at the LHC have been built and tested at the CERN SPS accelerator. Results from detailed studies of the straw-tube hit registration efficiency and drifttime measurements and of the pion and electron spectra without and with radiators are presented. r 2004 Elsevier B.V. متن کاملRadiation-hard/high-speed data transmission using optical links
The silicon trackers of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN (Geneva) use optical links for data transmission. An upgrade of the trackers is planned for the Super LHC (SLHC), an upgraded LHC with ten times higher luminosity. We investigate the radiation-hardness of various components for possible application in the data transmission upgrade. We study the radiation-har...
متن کاملStudy of the Radiation Hardness of Vcsel and Pin Arrays
The silicon trackers of the ATLAS experiment at LHC (CERN) use optical links for data transmission. VCSEL arrays operating at 850 nm are used to transmit optical signals while PIN arrays are used to convert the optical signals into electrical signals. We investigate the feasibility of using the devices at the Super LHC (SLHC). We irradiated VCSEL and GaAs PIN arrays from three vendors and silic...
